New Avatar Editor Debuts to Xbox Insiders

After they were shown almost a year ago the new Avatars are coming to Xbox One starting with those in the insider program.

The information was posted yesterday on Xbox Wire by

Avatars will be a unique representation of your desired style, personality, creativity, and mood as you play on Xbox One. As an Xbox Insider, you’re among the first to get your hands on the new Avatars. With this release, you can get a head start on creating a new Xbox Avatar within the beta Xbox Avatar Editor app. We’re starting things off with a selection of customizable appearance and closet items in each category. Additional accessories, props, moods, clothing, and appearance categories will be unlocked in the near future, and more content will regularly become available after launch. Right now, we’re only turning on the Avatar Editor itself, but Xbox dashboard integration will be coming soon to Insiders.

Our team is busy applying the final touches for our first preview of the Xbox Avatar Editor app. The flight will officially begin tomorrow, June 19, and members of Alpha and Alpha – Skip Ahead will be able to access the beta Xbox Avatar Editor via the Xbox Insider Hub’s Insider content tab by noon PDT (8 this evening in the UK).

New Categories

The new Xbox Avatars are built from the ground up in to enable an unprecedented amount of inclusive customization options, and we will continue to grow these selections over time. A wide range of body types and gender-neutral clothing enable you to uniquely tailor your avatar however you see fit.  If you see something you like, you can use it. Xbox Avatars now feature entirely new categories of appearance items and accessories, including fingernails, makeup, limbs, nose rings, and moods.

Countless Color Combinations

Thanks to the powerful new Avatar Editor app, virtually every aspect of your avatar can be personalized on-the-fly.  Each feature, including skin tone, hair, wearables, and props, can support over 16 million color options.  Most closet items also support multiple custom colors, so the number of possible color combinations for a single item can go from trillions all the way up to almost eighty octillion– that’s an eight followed by 28 zeroes!  With so many color options, it could be easy to lose track of that exact hue that you just used on an item. But don’t worry! Your recently used colors will be available in the “my colors” section of the color selection menu.

Smile for the Camera

Once you’ve created your new Avatar, you’re going to want to show it off! The Photobooth feature in the Avatar Editor enables you to capture a great photo of your Avatar to use as your Gamerpic.  Pose your Avatar using a multitude of different emotes, each of which can be paused and advanced frame-by-frame with far more control than ever before. Rotate and zoom controls help you capture the exact pose that you’re looking for, and a wide variety of background colors enable you to set the scene.

Express Yourself

Self-expression is an important tenant of Xbox Avatars, and we know that some of you have become attached to your Xbox Original Avatar since we first introduced them almost ten years ago.  We’re giving you the freedom to choose how you represent yourself to Friends on Xbox Live, whether that’s with the all-new Avatars, a custom Gamerpic, or your Xbox Original Avatar. We love the new Xbox Avatars, and we hope you do too.

The Phenomenal Cover Star for WWE 2K19

2K Games has announced the AJ Styles will be the cover star of WWE 2K19 which releases on October 9 (or the 5th if you go for the Digital Deluxe Edition)– and this year's big hook series entry is the Million Dollar Challenge.

As the title suggests, one gamer will walk away with a million dollars in return for demonstrating their excellence in the virtual ring. This isn’t your conventional eSports tournament with regional then national then international qualifying, however – part of it involves you cutting a WWE-style promo video that explains your greatness, and the ultimate prize requires you to defeat WWE Champion AJ Styles at the game. The four steps are outlined by 2K as follows:
  • Beat a to-be-announced new mode in WWE 2K19
  • Submit a promotional video explaining why you’ll beat Styles on the game
  • Win a tournament against three other finalists
  • Beat AJ Styles himself at WWE 2K19

Xbox Wins E3

With no new consoles announced this year, E3 2018 was all about the games. And more gamers than any other year tuned in to Twitch for all the latest breaking news and big announcements from the gaming industry.

For the second year in a row, Microsoft’s live stream was the highest viewed stream on Twitch.
Microsoft’s Xbox E3 Briefing wasn’t just the most watched live event of this year’s convention… it was also the highest concurrent viewer count of any stream ever on Twitch, pulling in an impressive 1.7 million viewers at its peak.
  1. Microsoft / Xbox — 1.7 Million viewers (1.1 Million in 2017)
  2. Ubisoft — 1.6 Million viewers (986K in 2017)
  3. Sony / PlayStation — 1.5 Million viewers (926K in 2017)
  4. Bethesda — 964K viewers (233K in 2017)
  5. PC Gaming Show — 893K viewers (552K in 2017)
  6. Nintendo / Switch — 679K viewers (292K in 2017)
  7. EA (Electronic Arts) — 528K viewers (676K in 2017)
Compared to last year’s E3, Microsoft’s briefing saw an impressive increase of 600k concurrent viewers on Twitch – which doubled the 818k viewers they had back in 2016.

Which impressive with Microsoft heavily promoting their own streaming platform, Mixer, over Twitch, that the numbers could be even more impressive for the green brand.

Resident Evil 2 Remake will come to Xbox One

Resident Evil 2 Hero Image
For the first time since 2015, Resident Evil 2 Remake Resurfaced at E3  where after 20 years after its initial release in 1998, Capcom has announced that a remake of Resident Evil 2 will be hitting Xbox One on January 25, 2019.

Resident Evil 2 will be a complete remake of the original game,  updated more modern gameplay mechanics, improved over-the-shoulder camera, and gorgeous visuals thanks to the RE Engine that helped to power the terrifying Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. The game has been built from the ground up to make Raccoon City’s shambling hordes of zombies scarier than ever before.

Fans of the series will be happy to hear that the game’s two main protagonists have returned for more zombie-slaying. Fan favourites Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie cop dealing with a cataclysmic undead outbreak on his first day on the job, and Claire Redfield, a college student searching for her brother Chris, are back and looking better than ever.

You’ll be able to see the game’s events from both of their perspectives, exploring iconic locations including the Raccoon City Police Department, a former museum that can be explored for clues and will be presented in a way never before seen by fans.

IGN Bring Forza Horizon 4 to First

The upcoming hotly anticipated fourth instalment of Forza Horizon after coming off a great E3 showing is part of IGN's First series.

“’Seasons change everything’ sounds like a neat tagline, but it’s a really honest description of what actually happens from season to season… in our game,” says Playground Games creative director Ralph Fulton. “I think it’s testament to the production team and our tech art team, and our environment art team here at Playground who have managed to create basically four worlds the size of Forza Horizon 3, in one, for this game.”

The first IGN First video takes a look at some of the work involved in building four worlds instead of one, and also explores how seasons will effect and expand the traditional Forza Horizon gameplay experience.

The Playground Games team has spent an entire year gathering reference material, sound recordings, and sky captures from all over Britain – in every season – in order to ensure Forza Horizon 4 is as faithful a recreation of the kind of seasonal variety Britain boasts as possible. As the seasons shift in the game sheep are shorn, crops are harvested, and even blossums flower on hedgerows; no detail, it appears, was too small.

This is certainly something to keep an eye on.

Game Preview: Enlisted coming in 2018

Upcoming Squad Based MMO Shooter Enlisted will be coming to Xbox Game Preview somtime in 2018.

Xbox Game Preview players will be able to strap on the boots of American, Soviet, and German soldiers, and jump into massive WWII battles with hundreds of soldiers and thousands of bullets flying everywhere. Enlisted’s unique game mechanics of an AI controlled squad transforms the traditional military multiplayer FPS game into a more realistic and chaotic warfare experience, making battles dynamic and massive. Enlisted offers several game modes for all tastes, from extended comprehensive battles through to more fast-paced action to Battle Royale.

“We want to widen the genre of realistic FPS to a bigger audience. Realism should not always mean lengthy preparation and an extended road to the first battle. Realism should be the battle conditions and weapon characteristics being close to reality, it’s in the active interaction with your team or squad, it’s in the massive battles, where you can lose hundreds of soldiers in one assault. This is what we aim for in Enlisted”, - said Alexander Polyakov, lead producer of Darkflow Software.

The Xbox Game Preview version of Enlisted will allow players to test out and enjoy several game modes: Invasion, Offensive, City Battle, and Battle Royale. “Invasion” will offer battles with asymmetrical gameplay, where two teams will need to complete different tasks: one will be capturing and holding a large territory, while the second will try to liquidate all the invaders. The mode will throw players right into the heart of the battle. Each player will form and lead a squad of AI controlled soldiers. Squad members will follow players commands and provide them with additional lives – every time the main character dies, the player will get full control of the nearest soldier from their squad. This will help a player get back to the battle in a blink and participate in the combat longer.

Those who prefer a more consistent and thoughtful webattle will enjoy “Offensive” mode. Here players will be able to build fortifications, drive vehicles, and use large caliber guns. The distances on the map will be greater than in “Invasion”, so the value of each decision and action will be higher. Players can also expect city battles for multiple numbers of participants.

The game will also feature a Battle Royale mode. This mode will include unique Team Battle Royale, where each of two teams will be representing one of the nations that fought in WW2. Players will be able to use heavy vehicles like tanks.
