The Gardens Between Review

I just want to start off by saying that I asked on Twitter for some feedback regards to reviews as I was offered a code for The Gardens Between a game I very much was looking forward to that I jumped at the opportunity to review TGB but wasn't sure where I'd actually put the review.

After the feedback I got, yes this will stay primarily as an Xbox focused blog however you seem to be interested in what else is happening outside of Xbox and with a title like The Gardens Between being available on PC, Mac, Linux, Switch and PS4 (where I played TGB) meaning even if it's not on Xbox, you may have a way to check it out and check it out you should.

The Gardens Between focuses on teenagers Arina and Frendt, who live next door to each other. One stormy night the pair sneak out and hide out in their treehouse, built on a small garden square next to both houses when a light sphere causes the treehouse to enter a dream-like a state.

In this dream-state, Arina and Frendt come across islands made up of there experiences over the years that are played out over 19 levels spread over multiple islands.

These levels consist of a beautiful art-style which sort of remind me of Oxenfree if that was in 3D. The core gameplay is centred around puzzles that are simple in nature based around when you move forward time moves forward and vice-versa for backwards.

This leads to some really clever puzzles as you have to get the light sphere that you see at the start of the game to the end of each level which seems rather straightforward but you come across obstacles that may be a planet which eats the light for instance, so you have to get rid of the planet and this is made more difficult as only Arina can carry the light whilst Frendt can use switches, which means you have to manipulate the flow of time to get past each level.

When you do get past all the levels in an island, you get a sort of cut-scene which shows a memory linked to the level's you've just played.

The Gardens Between is a lovely looking and challenging yet simple puzzle game that is a great few hours of fun to play on a Sunday afternoon.

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemptionthe boss battler from publisher Another Indie and the senior AAA veterans at developer Dark Star Game Studios, will come to Xbox One and other platforms on 18 Oct.

Created by a team including a former Ubisoft art director, Konami senior programmer and a Blizzard technical artist, Sinner follows Adam, a soldier with a dark past. Adam embarks on a journey for absolution, facing off against monstrous beasts to reconcile his heinous crimes. Based on the seven deadly sins, these savage specters will reveal their personal connections with Adam as he advances his quest for atonement to a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.

Before dueling each monstrosity, Adam must sacrifice a part of himself and accept a permanent debuff. Battles will become increasingly difficult with each sacrifice as Adam’s vitality is reduced, his arsenal breaks down and his armor withers away. Alternate gear can be unlocked in New Game+ mode, lending replayability to Adam’s journey for redemption.

Sinner provides the intense action players crave in hardcore games through intimate battles that are accessible in any order,” says Iain Garner, director of developer relations, Another Indie. “By giving players the freedom to choose their path through its devilish challenges, Sinner offers player agency without sacrificing a compelling story.

Phoenix Down used on Final Fantasy for Xbox One (and this blog)

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/wp-content/uploads/FFAnnounceHERO-hero.jpg

Hi guys, I've not posted for a while as I was, unfortunately, doing a lot of lates and weekends at work along with going away on holiday that I've not posted much on here even the most basic of news such as what's coming out this week.

I plan to get back into the swing of things starting with this exciting news from last week, thanks to a Nintendo Direct, where a bunch of Final Fantasy games were announced for the Nintendo Switch, not long after the Final Fantasy twitter account sent out a tweet about the upcoming games and announcing that a few of the games shown will also be coming to Xbox One and join Final Fantasy XV already on the console.

The games coming include the now released Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, World of Final Fantasy Maxima an enhanced version of the previously released title elsewhere, which will come to Xbox One on November 6th.

Then in 2019 four (or five depending on your view) games will arrive which includes Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX (the best one), Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age.

No word yet if the likes of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will get a physical release like it has on other consoles or will be digital only much like other Square Enix title NieR: Automata.
